Want to Remove Just One or Two Pages Manually?
Not every cleanup job calls for a bulk removal tool. Sometimes you only need to remove a single page or two — like an expired coupon that keeps showing up in search, an old service area you no longer cover, or a blog post that’s been duplicated one too many times. For those smaller situations, Google Search Console includes a built-in Removals tool. It’s a quick and simple way to hide content from search results without having to rework your entire site.
Quick URL Removal
If you just want to get one page out of Google’s results fast, here’s how:
- Log in to Search Console and select your site.
- Click New Request and choose Temporarily Remove URL.
- Paste in the exact link you want gone and hit submit.
Within a short time, that page will stop showing in Google’s results. Just keep in mind that this hide only lasts about six months. To make the change permanent, you’ll still want to adjust the page itself (delete it, redirect it, or add a noindex tag).
Hiding a Whole Section of Your Site
What if you need to take down more than one page — say, every outdated offer in your /specials/
folder? The Removals tool also allows you to hide everything under a certain path. That way you don’t have to submit each page individually.
- Choose the Prefix option in Removals.
- Enter the folder path (for example:
https://yourplumbingsite.com/specials/
). - Submit the request to temporarily hide all matching pages.
This is handy for big clean-ups, but remember it’s still a temporary solution. You’ll want to follow up with a permanent fix if the content really shouldn’t return.
Making Removals Permanent
Temporary removals buy you time, but they don’t erase the content from your site. To make sure pages don’t reappear after six months, you’ll need to update them directly:
- Delete the page: Let it serve a 404 or 410 error.
- Redirect it: Point the old link to a more relevant live page.
- Noindex it: Add
<meta name="robots" content="noindex">
to tell Google not to include it in search results.
After making those changes, use the URL Inspection tool in Search Console and click Request indexing. This helps Google pick up your updates more quickly.
Pro Tip
Manual removals are a great quick fix when you’re only dealing with one or two pages. But if you’re cleaning up dozens — or even hundreds — of links, the manual process gets tedious fast. That’s exactly what the GSC Bulk URL Removal Tool was built for: the same process, just automated and finished in minutes instead of hours.
